Earlier this week, June Jones and Jason Phillips paid a visit to Stratford High School in Houston to pop in on A.J. Justice and his best friend, Pruitt.
"They just came in back-to-back-to-back-to-back," Pruitt said. "My test scores came in late and everyone just saw my ACT score. I scored a 23."
Despite the other offers, Pruitt is most excited about his one from the Mustangs.
"I was just amazed," he said. "I've always wanted to play there."
Pruitt, who was named First-Team All-District in 17-4A after the 2011-12 season, will take his official visit to SMU this weekend.
"SMU stands at the top of my list," he said.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defensive end said he really enjoyed visiting with Jones and Phillips this week. He said they were upfront with him and didn't try and lead him on or anything.
"They said, ‘We'd like to offer you on the spot, but we have to go through our evaluation and look at your film,'" Pruitt said.
After reviewing all the particulars, the coaches offered.
"I see myself committing this weekend," he said.
Pruitt and Justice, who will be traveling to Dallas for their official visits together, have been best friends all throughout high school, but Pruitt said the fact that Justice had already been committed to the Mustangs didn't define his decision.
"I think that's a benefit, playing with my best friend, but as far as him being the reason, no. I'm going [to SMU] for the education," Pruitt said. "Going there, I feel like I'll have more job opportunities from that school than any other school."
Pruitt plans to major in business.
Pruitt took an official to UTSA last week and said that this weekend's one to SMU will be his final campus visit. He said he'll be comparing those two as he makes his decision.
"I'm looking forward to finding somewhere that feels like home," he said. "Trying to find that good home feeling."
Pruitt, Justice and all their Stratford football friends will be together on National Signing Day, which is next Wednesday.
"My friends and I are going to sign together," he said. "We came into high school together and it'll be nice to sign out together."
