Texada gives final thoughts on SMU

Ranthony Texada will be making his final decision on Monday. Is SMU still in the running?

It's decision time for Ranthony Texada.

The three-star cornerback will be committing to a school on Monday afternoon and is excited to officially become part of a Division I college football program.

"I feel like I'm ready to make a commitment and get it out of the way so I can be ready for the season," Texada said. "I know who I'm going to commit to but just my family and close friends know where I'm going."

Texada will be announcing his decision at 2 p.m. in Frisco Centennial's indoor practice facility. He wouldn't give too many details on what school he may be choosing but did list the characteristics that caught his attention.

"I feel like I have a rally good bond with the coaches," he said. "The depth chart as far as playing time was really big for me. Academics were another factor."

So does SMU fit the description?

"SMU is a good school. I've built a good relationship with all the coaches," Texada said. "My mom really likes the academics so that's why they're one of the schools I'm considering. But we'll see Monday."

SMU, Baylor, TCU, Houston, Iowa State and Western Kentucky will all be at the edge of their seats as the six finalists from a pool of 19 offers. With only a day left before becoming a commit, Texada is cherishing all the memories he built during the recruiting process.

"It's been fun and interesting. It's something that I'll never forget," he said. " It's had its ups and downs but I really learned a lot from it and enjoyed it."
