Mississippi signal caller schedules SMU visit

SMU will host Ocean Springs (MS) quarterback Wes Windham for an unofficial visit on Friday. Is he expecting an offer?

Practice and then the airport- those will be the last two stops quarterback prospect Wes Windham will make in Mississippi on Thursday evening. Windham will be departing for SMU to meet with head coach June Jones and quarterbacks coach Dan Morrison.

Windham, who is not rated, said that he hasn't been in very close contact with SMU but gained interest from them after sending in his highlight tape.

"I sent them a highlight film and they were really interested," Windham said. "They just told me to come up and have a one-on-one with their quarterbacks coach. It might be a little visit at the end I'm not sure."

Windham, who has yet to receive an offer from SMU, is also being courted by Harvard and Mississippi State. Windham visited Harvard in June and said he was impressed.

"It was real good," Windham said. "I went to their camp and that's when I had a meeting with a coach, and he told me that I just had to get my ACT up because the hardest part is getting into school there."

Harvard doesn't give full scholarships to their athletes but does offer an education recognized by many as one of the top in the nation. Windham, who values academics very strongly, says that he feels just as strongly about playing football.

"I'd say they're about equal actually," Windham said. "My mom pushes academics but they're both really important to me I'd say."

Windham doesn't plan on visiting any other schools and says that he would love to play at a big time university but as of right now his options are limited. When asked to pick between SMU and Harvard he replied:

"That'd be a tough one. I'd have to talk it out with my family for a while and research both schools a little bit more because I haven't done much research on them. But Harvard really was impressive when I went up there."

Windham expects to arrive on the Hilltop at around 10 a.m. on Friday.
