Player Profile Series: OL Taylor Lasecki

With fall camp nearing, the PS staff will profile all 22 projected starters throughout July. Today we take a look at redshirt freshman center Taylor Lasecki.

Taylor Lasecki

Position: Center

Size: 6-3, 288

Classification: Redshirt Freshman

High School: Frisco High School

2011 Review: Redshirted

2011 Grade: Incomplete

2012 Outlook: Lasecki did not spend too much time on the Hilltop before people started predicting the freshman would be making waves after his redshirt year was up because of how easy he picked up the complicated blocking schemes for the Mustang offense. Lasecki not only picked up the offense, but he worked hard in the weight room to bulk up from the 260 pounds he came to SMU at to be almost at 300 pounds by the start of this year's camp.

Blake McJunkin talked about Lasecki this past spring being ready to take on the starting center role, while he was at guard. That compliment speaks volumes about where Lasecki is at this point. in his young SMU career coming from the sixth-year lineman, McJunkin, who did not see SMU adding the high profile lineman transfer that they did in LSU transfer, Stavion Lowe. Coach June Jones said at the Conference-USA Media Day that Lowe would probably move into a starting role, which would move Lasecki out of the starting center position.

Even with the addition of Lowe to the SMU offensive line, the Frisco High School product is going to see time along the line at guard and center in preparation for the season if one of the starters goes down. Lasecki has the ability to start right now, but with seniors Jordan Free, Bryan Collins and McJunkin slated to hold down the interior of the line, Lasecki might have to wait again this year.

If Lasecki is unable to earn a starting role on the line, his sophomore year will be when he will be expected to provide leadership for the interior of the line, while Lowe and Gottschalk handle the tackle spots.

Lasecki's emergence as one of the more talked about SMU linemen speaks to the great things that are expected of him when he does slide into a starting role and Laseki will be a leader and a bright spot on the SMU offensive line when he does.
