A lot has gone on in the recruitment of Seattle Prep (WA) cornerback Tere Calloway recently, including interest from some high profile schools.
"There have been a few other schools I've talked to," Calloway said. "I've been in contact with Louisville, Wake Forest and Rutgers."
Despite gaining attention from BCS conference teams, Calloway's top schools have remained unchanged, meaning SMU is still among the top schools he is considering.
"I would say that the top schools I'm looking at right now are SMU, Southern Miss, Colorado State, Nevada, Memphis and Temple," he said.
Calloway, one of SMU's most highly ranked recruits, had plans to visit the Hilltop for a second time this past weekend, but scratched the plans to fly down to Dallas last minute. However, Calloway still has all five official visits to take, and says he plans to utilize all of them to find out more about each school he is looking at.
"I will definitely take all five visits," Calloway said. "Southern Miss is guaranteed a visit, as well as Nevada and after that, I'm not sure."
Calloway, who plans to make his decision sometime in the winter, says that when it comes down to it, he will go to the school that is the best fit for him in some key categories.
"There is no single thing that is most important," he said. "It's going to be a mix of academics, coaching staff, the type of family feeling I get there, and playing time."
Calloway is also best friends with another recruit that is high on SMU's list, Tatum Taylor. Calloway and Taylor have had plans to a package deal, but Calloway says new developments might change those plans.
"I'm hoping too [go to college with Taylor], he got some big offers recently, so we'll see how that plays out," Calloway said. "I just don't know right now."
Calloway is also good friends with SMU commit Kolney Cassel, and says that although Cassel continues to recruit him to SMU, he knows all he needs to about the Mustangs at this point.
"I talked to him last night. He's been recruiting me to SMU, but I already know quite a lot about SMU," he said. "I've already been down for a visit so there is not too much more I can learn about. It's going to come down to me learning more about others schools and comparing them all."
All in all it will be interesting to see how the recruitment of Calloway ends up. With SMU being one of only a few schools that have offered both he and Taylor, and with Calloway's familiarity with Cassel, it seems as if SMU should be in the lead for Calloway, but it also seems that the longer Calloway takes to decide, the less of a chance SMU has at obtaining his commitment.
