SMU Targets Local Linebacker

One of the Dallas-area's most aggressive linebackers recently visited SMU and has high interest in the Mustangs. Come inside to see what Tom Mason has been telling him!

SMU may be full at linebacker with the commitments of Carlos Carroll, Nick Horton and Roderick Moore, but if something were to open up, Frisco Centennial linebacker Blair Swanner would be next in line to pick an offer from the Mustangs.

"When Coach (Tom) Mason came to Centennial, it really sparked interest," Swanner said. "We started reaching out to him. That led to talking to him directly, and he invited me to come watch the TCU game.

"He's an awesome guy. He was candid and told me after he watched my film that they aren't used to having people of my caliber want to go there. But three linebackers have committed, and they don't have room. He just said if one jumped off, I would be the next option and that good things happen to those who wait."

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound tackling machine did end up making the trip to see SMU take on heated rival TCU last month and was impressed with the campus and atmosphere on the Hilltop.

"I love the campus. I think it's beautiful. It has that real college feel," he said. "We got to go to the Hall of Champions and got to go down to the field. The only thing that was a downer was the rain. We got poured on, but it was a great experience."

Swanner also visited TCU this past weekend and plans to visit Arkansas and Wyoming in the near future. He has been in contact with Houston, New Mexico and Ohio, but SMU may very well stand above them all.

"My family has always been a Mustang family. We got to their games and love SMU," Swanner said. "I really like the program, and it would be awesome to play at a place like SMU. They are high on my list."

Swanner has attracted more attention from school with his play this season. The senior has racked up 26 tackles, two interceptions, a sack, and has also scored two touchdowns.
