Running Back Interested In SMU

Waco La Vega RB Randy Gober has an offer from Syracuse but is hoping the Ponies get in the mix for his services

Waco La Vega running back Randy Gober currently holds an offer from Syracuse but has deemed the school ‘too far away from home' and is hoping for more interest as he continues to explore other options.

One school that stands out to Gober is SMU. Although the two-star prospect has not been in contact with the coaching staff, he will be calling his area recruiter, Bert Hill, soon and would like to schedule an unofficial visit.

"I'm really interested in SMU because they are a program on the rise," Gober said. "They have Shakiel Randolph from Waco, and he' starting as a freshman and I feel I can do the same and come in and help with their running back situation. I watched their game against UTEP and thought I could really help and be a part of a growing program."

Gober has known Randolph since the two ran track together in elementary school and hopes to find out more information through his old pal and would like to see him play in a game as well.

"I'm really close to Shakiel. I haven't been able to talk to him about SMU recently, but I want to talk to him and also go watch him play," Gober said. "I went down there my freshman year for a camp, and they told me they liked me so I'm hoping to get in contact with the coaches soon."

Besides Syracuse, Gober has attracted the attention of Bowling Green and TCU and is expecting others to get in the mix as his senior year progresses. This season, Gober has rushed for 850 yards in just five games and is threat to score every time he touches the ball.

"Bowling Green is coming down to see me. They said they are interested and might offer after they speak to my grandmother," Gober said. "I've also talked to TCU and am good friends with Waymon James."

Gober says he will take an official visit to Bowling Green but is not sure what other schools he'll see this winter.
