This past spring, Mesquite Horn linebacker D.J. Green picked up an offer from SMU visited for junior day. He was extremely intrigued but at the end of the day, he felt Baylor was the better fit.
But that's no longer the case. Green recently decommitted from Baylor and is once again showing high interest in the Ponies. In fact, the three-star prospect visited last Thursday and was impressed with SMU's big win over Houston.
"One of my questions going into the game was what was the atmosphere going to be like," Green said. "I went to the SFA game and that was good but Houston met my expectations. I wasn't expecting a blowout, and I think SMU definitely showed they are better Houston."
Green currently has SMU in his top two along with Syracuse. Both schools have offered, but SMU has an advantage thanks to defensive coordinator Tom Mason.
"Right now, SMU and Syracuse are my top two options. SMU is my hometown school and family supports it," he said. "One thing that stands out is Coach Mason. He is one of my most favorite coaches that I've ever met. He's like a teenager in an old man's body so he's a huge plus."
Unfortunately for Green, Mason shared a bit of bad news when the two spoke before the game.
"He came and talked to me and my teammate Hunter Hatwell," Green said. "He told us that Taylor Reed and Ja'Gared Davis are going to be gone so there is going to be some holes. But he also said things are complicated because they already have a few linebackers committed."
Green says he also take a visit to Syracuse after the season and plans to make his decision soon after.
