Ward Exploring Options

Tyler John Tyler ATH Greg Ward is currently committed to Houston but is keeping his options open. Where does SMU stand?

Tyler John Tyler ATH Greg Ward picked up an offer from SMU in early September but since then has had minimal contact with the coaching staff. But Ward, who is verbally committed to Houston, is still somewhat interested in SMU.

"My interest in SMU right now is medium," Ward said. "I'm not sure if I'm going to visit during the season, but I might after. I like their offense, and I've been talking a lot to Jeremy Johnson. He told me to keep my options open."

Ward was extremely excited about SMU when he visited for junior day but after waiting months for an offer, he became frustrated with the program and began to lose interest. A lack of a strong relationship with his recruiter and SMU defensive line coach Bert Hill has not helped the cause.

"I haven't really been hearing from them lately," Ward said "I talked to Coach Hill like three weeks ago. He told me he liked what I was doing so far and to keep it up. SMU was high on my list, but now they are just there with the other schools."

The three-star prospect also holds offers from Rice and Memphis and said he will take Johnson's advice and keep his options open.

"Right now, I am still committed to Houston, but it's not solid," he said. "It's a soft verbal so I'm still weighing my options."

Ward does not have any visits set and is focused on helping John Tyler make a deep run in the playoffs. This season, Ward has passed for 2,150 yards, rushed for 387 and scored 31 total touchdowns.

"The season is really progressing in a positive way. Right now, we are focused on our last game and then playoffs," Ward said. "We know there aren't going to be any cupcakes, but we have expectations to go far."
