Paul Recaps SMU Visit

SMU commit Dee Paul was recently on the Hilltop for an unofficial visit. Did the trip make his verbal stronger?

After picking up a couple of Big 12 offers, Dee Paul has been on the fence about his commitment to SMU. And that hasn't changed despite spending this past weekend on the Hilltop for an unofficial visit. But Paul did enjoy his time on campus.

"It went pretty good. I liked the atmosphere, and I thought they played really well," Paul said. "I liked the facilities and campus. I actually saw them last year so it wasn't anything new. Overall, it was a good experience."

It had been months since Paul was contacted by SMU until about two weeks when he received a phone call from an unnamed coach. So when the three-star prospect was able to meet the entire coaching staff during his trip, he was filled with elation.

"I spoke to all the coaches, which was really great. Coach (Jason) Phillips told me that he hopes I still have SMU No. 1 on my list. He told me he really likes my speed and wants me on the offensive side of the ball," Paul said. "It was really cool meeting Coach (June) Jones. He likes how I play and said I would be a big weapon for them."

Paul recently said he would prefer to play cornerback at the next level but says a future on the offensive side of the ball wouldn't be a bad option either especially after watching the Run N' Shoot in action. At Munday, Paul plays all over the field and has accumulated over 2,000 yards of total offense this season.

"I'm the type of guy that can catch a 5-yard pass and take it in for a touchdown," Paul said. "I also feel like I can be a deep threat because of my speed. I really like SMU's offensive because they pass the ball a lot and I think I would be a good fit."

Paul visited Texas Tech last week and will check out Oklahoma State this weekend. Paul explained that he wants to wait until after the season to make his final decision and is simply looking to enjoy his time in Stillwater.

"I've stayed in close contact with the Oklahoma State coaches since they offered me," Paul said. "I was really amazed when Coach (Mike) Gundy came to my practice to watch me catch punts so that's why there are really high on my list. I'm really excited to go visit this weekend and can't wait to see a big win."
