SMU has recently been trying to establish a pipeline at Dallas Skyline, and the effort continued this past weekend when an offer was extended to 2014 nose tackle Mike Thomas.
"My recruiting coach at Skyline told me I had an offer this weekend," Thomas said. "I was really happy about it because it was my first offer. I haven't looked into it, but I have interest."
Although, SMU is only a couple of miles away from home Thomas isn't extremely familiar with the local program.
"Like I said, I haven't really looked into SMU," he said. "I don't know too much at all, and I haven't talked to the coaches yet. I have been to the campus though, and it's really nice."
Thomas hopes to learn more about SMU through a couple off his teammates. Roderick Moore is committed for the Class of 2013 while fellow 2014 prospects Victor Evans and Tyus Barrett also hold offers.
"I would love to give to school with Victor," Thomas said. "He called me right away and said we could play at SMU together. Roderick also talked to me about it and had some good things to say."
Thomas expects more offers to come his way soon but is completely focused on helping Skyline win state. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder has spent most of the season learning from Texas A&M commit Kerrick Huggins but has impressed while spelling him.
"Kerrick has taught me a lot, and it's been great learning from him," he said. "Right now, we are taking it one game at a time, but I feel we have the potential to win state."
