FREE: Hollie Commits To SMU

SMU picked up a commitment from DE Spencer Hollie this weekend. Come inside to get the full story!

It didn't take long for Spencer Hollie to realize he wanted to be a Mustang. After visiting this weekend and watching SMU upset Tulsa, the Dublin (CA) defensive end pulled the trigger and committed immediately.

"Coach (Bert) Hill took me and my dad into his office and offered me," Hollie said. "I was really excited. I had been wanting to go to SMU for a while so I made my decision there and told Coach Hill that I was committing. It's relief to finally make my decision."

His father, Doug, played defensive end for SMU in the 80's so natural Hollie wanted to follow in his father's footsteps but is focused on making a name for himself on the Hilltop.

"My dad never pushed me to go to SMU. He just wanted me to go to the best school for me. But he was really happy when I committed," Hollie said. "It holds a lot of sentimental value, but at the same time, I want to make my own legacy at SMU."

At 6-foot-5, 275-pounds, Hollie feels like he can come in and make an immediate impact along the defensive line. This season he racked up 58 tackles and 15 sacks en route to leading Dublin to a playoff appearance.

"I want to come in and start as a freshman or get some immediate playing time," he said. "Coach Hill wants me to play defensive end, and that's where I'd prefer to play. My high school team runs a 3-4 like SMU so I would be comfortable."

Hollie says he has closed his recruitment and is fully committed to SMU despite attracting strong interest from California, UCLA and San Jose State.

"My decision is final. I really like the campus and how it's not too big. I got to see the weight room and study hall and all the facilities are just top notch. Getting to see everything on game day was fun, and I was sold."
