Horton Enjoys Visit

SMU commit Nick Horton was on the Hilltop for an official visit. Get his thoughts on Deion Sanders, June Jones and more inside!

Garland (TX) linebacker Nick Horton took an official visit to SMU this past weekend and says he really enjoyed the experience.

"It was real fun," Horton said. "We went out to eat most of the time. They gave me a host and he took me around campus and talked to me about how campus life was and showed me a good time."

Running back Rishaad Wimbley hosted Horton for the two days that he visited the Hilltop. However at night Horton, as well as the other recruits, were lodged at the Renaissance Hotel.

Horton, who had previously visited campus, got the chance to take a tour of the athletic facilities as well as eat lunch in the press box, which he says he thoroughly enjoyed.

"It was real good. They gave us the best food," Horton said. "On Friday, we had steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Then in the morning, they gave us pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and hash browns."

Horton, who was accompanied by his family for one of the evenings, says he spent time talking with the coaching staff throughout the weekend as well.

Horton spoke with defensive coordinator Tom Mason and while dining at Texas de Brazil sat at the same table as head coach June Jones, who spoke with him and his family.

"They were just telling me that they like me on film a lot, and they think I can come in and compete for some playing time," Horton said.

Horton also got a chance to meet Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, who was on campus with his son and SMU commit Deion Sanders Jr. Horton says Sanders gave a speech to the entire team.

"Oh yeah he's real cool," Horton said. "He gave us a speech about how he was sending his son here to SMU, and he thinks that Coach Jones is going to treat us right and make an impact on our lives in the next four or five years."

Horton says that he'll be spending the holidays in Dallas with his family and working hard in the coming months to improve his game. Horton added that he is solid on his decision and is looking forward to having success as a Mustang.

"Oh yeah I made the right decision," Horton said. "I prayed about it, and I feel that I can go there and have success. I'm ready for signing day."
