Rhodes Looking At New Option

SMU commit J'Marcus Rhodes recently took an official visit to Texas State. How does that affect his verbal? Come inside to find out!

SMU commit J'Marcus Rhodes has a new school interested in his talents and is paying attention to what it has to offer.

"Texas State came down to my school and offered me earlier this month," Rhodes said. "It was kind of a shock to me, but I'm really happy about it. Coach (Jeff) Conway told me I could play as a freshman and said I would be a good fit there."

After his conversation with the Bobcats co-offensive coordinator, Rhodes decided to take an official visit to San Marcos last weekend and came away impressed with the campus, coaching staff and facilities.

"The visit went really well," Rhodes said. "They answered all of my questions and gave me some pretty good information on the school. The campus was really nice, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere on campus. Texas State is definitely in my top two now."

But the two-star prospect remains verbally committed to SMU and has kept in constant contact with his recruiter, Derrick Odum, since pledging back in October. The SMU defensive backs coach recently made his way down to West Orange Stark to visit with Rhodes.

"I got a chance to really talk to Coach Odum when he came to my school last week," Rhodes said. "He was talking to me about how I could fit in at SMU and in their scheme. He said I could play both corner and safety and have an opportunity to compete for early playing time."

Rhodes will take his official visit to SMU on February 1- a date that features Demarcus Ayers, Jarvis Baxter, Trey Washington and Myles Crosby- and hopes to get a more in-depth look at the campus. Rhodes said he will compare the two schools with his family after the visit and will make his final decision before signing day.
