Scouting Report: Deion Sanders Jr.

Leading up to National Signing Day, Pony Stampede will be providing scouting reports on each SMU commit by talking to their high school coaches and gaining insight on the future Mustangs!

After arriving at the Hilltop this Tuesday, Deion Sanders Jr. will look to make an impact immediately throughout spring practices and prove he is a worthy candidate to fill in for departing star Darius Johnson.

Sanders Jr., the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, wants to make a name for himself at SMU and hopes that he can do so as the point man in the Run N' Shoot offense.

Pony Stampede caught up with Atlanta Sports Academy head coach Damon Dawson to gain better insight on how Sanders will perform on his new team.

How big of an impact did Deion have on your team this year?

Deion was a good player with a world of potential. His presence put our other players at ease, and that was invaluable to us.

What are Deion's best skills and attributes?

Deion is a competitor. He hates like to lose, in practice or a game, which is a great quality for any player to have.

What does Deion need to improve on?

He needs to work on just forgetting about his mistakes and move on to the next play. He carries his name with great pride and sometimes I feel it is his albatross.

Will Deion make an immediate impact at SMU or will he need time to develop?

Like I said, he is a competitor. You can never count out a competitor. Being there this spring will be big for him. I believe he can help in some ways right away.

Why is SMU a good fit for Deion?

He is comfortable with the staff and the area. He is ready for primetime.
