A plethora of recruits from the SMU class of 2013 were on the Hilltop taking their official visits this past weekend. Amongst the group was Red Oak (TX) tight end Jeremiah Gaines.

Gaines, who has been solidly committed to the Mustangs since his decision back in the summer, had come to campus on numerous occasions before this weekend but says he still enjoyed the festivities.

"It was fun," Gaines said. "I got to talk to some of the guys who were already up there, and I got to talk to some of the recruits. It seems like everybody was cool."

Gaines, who arrived on campus late Friday evening after his basketball game, said that throughout the weekend he got the chance to meet and converse with many of his future teammates. Gaines said that his favorite part of the visit was the food and fellowship.

"Saturday night we went to Texas de Brazil," Gaines said. "The next morning we had breakfast together and then we had lunch at the stadium. My favorite part was probably Texas de Brazil when we were just sitting down eating and talking."

Gaines usually keeps in close contact with his recruiter, SMU defensive line coach Bert Hill, but while on campus Gaines spoke with a number of other SMU coaches including head coach June Jones.

"I talked to a lot of coaches over the course of the weekend," Gaines said. "I talked to Coach Jones this morning. He just told me how excited he was and I told him that the feeling was mutual. I'm excited to come up there on July 1 when I report."

Gaines' host on campus was sophomore defensive lineman Darrian Wright. Gaines says that he and Wright got to know each other and discussed life on campus.

This coming Wednesday marks the date of the official National Signing Day for high school seniors. Gaines will be signing his letter of intent at 8:30 a.m. at Red Oak High School in the lobby in front of the gym.

"It's definitely a blessing," Gaines said. "That real wow factor hasn't really set in yet, but I'm just grateful to have this opportunity."
