Pruitt Discusses SMU Offer, Junior Day

SMU extended an offer to Bishop Dunne offensive lineman Jovan Pruitt while he was at junior day. Is he interested? Come inside to find out!

Bishop Dunne offensive lineman Jovan Pruitt already holds offers from schools such as Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas. But the three-star prospect is seriously pondering staying close to home and playing for SMU.

"I really am considering SMU. The thing I really like about it is it's close to home, and I'll get to play in front of my family," Pruitt said. "I like the program and there seems to be a lot of excitement from the coaching staff."

Maybe Pruitt feels that way because earlier this month June Jones and a few other coaches made the short trip to Bishop Dunne and personally visited with the 6-foot-6, 295-pounder.

A little effort can go a long way and Pruitt is taking notice.

"Coach Jones seems really excited about the program. He was really energized when talking about SMU and what it has to offer," Pruitt said. "I really like staff and what they told me about SMU."

While at junior day this weekend, Pruitt officially picked an SMU offer and was able to sit down with Jones, defensive backs coach Derrick Odum and offensive line coach Bob Palcic.

"I was glad I got to talk to them. Coach Odum is the one who said he was going to be my recruiter, and he offered me," Pruitt said. "I'm really happy about it. Coach Odum seems like a cool guy and said he would love to have me. Coach Palcic coaches the line and he said I could dominate."

During his time on the Hilltop, Pruitt made his way around campus and toured the facilities, which he felt were just as nice as many of the BCS schools he's seen.

"All locker rooms look pretty much the same, but SMU's way really cool," he said. "It's a smaller school, but the facilities are top notch. The campus was great too. I was really happy with what I saw."

Pruitt wasn't alone on the trip. The No. 22 ranked offensive tackle was accompanied by four-star cornerback Nick Watkins, who also holds an SMU offer, and fellow teammate Ronnie LaRue.

"I haven't really talked to them about SMU, but I will sit down with them on Tuesday," Pruitt said. "I know they like it, and it would be great to play with them at the next level since we are all good friends. Our goal is to win a BCS Championship and maybe we can do that at SMU."
