Larue Still Hoping For SMU Offer

Bishop Dunne athlete Ronnie Larue enjoyed his time at SMU junior day and hopes an offer comes his way. More inside!

Ronnie LaRue arrived at SMU with hopes of finally picking up an offer after being recruited for months. But Larue left empty handed.

Still, the Bishop Dunne defensive back is remaining optimistic after meeting with SMU defensive backs coach Derrick Odum.

"I got to talk to Coach (June) Jones and Coach Odum. Coach Jones told me that he had heard a lot about me and to keep working hard," Larue said. "Coach Odum was really cool. I look forward to getting to know him better since he's my recruiter now. He said he would be by school this so I hope he offers then."

If Larue does in fact pick up the SMU offer, he would seriously consider committing.

"I would definitely think about it," Larue said. "My favorite thing about SMU is how close it is. They were also one of the first schools to start recruiting me. If they were my first offer, it would go a long way."

Larue, who transferred to Bishop Dunne from Red Oak this spring, has befriended numerous athletes from across the metroplex through camps and visits. Fellow SMU prospects are no exception.

"I've talked to a bunch of guys like James Proche, Bobby Baze, Christian Sam and Tyus Barrett and we all like SMU. It would be great if we could all go to school together especially here in Dallas," Larue said. "Coach Odum also talked to Nick Watkins and Jovan Pruitt. He said that he really liked all three of us. I haven't talked to them about SMU, but we enjoyed junior day."

Larue had previously been on the Hilltop for a few unofficial visits this fall but said junior day gave him a more in-depth look at SMU.

"During the visits, we just skimmed through things. At junior day, I basically got to see everything up close," he said. "The campus and facilities are right up there with other schools I've been to. I think SMU is trying to upgrade everything now that they are moving to a bigger conference."

Larue was at Baylor junior day earlier this month and plans to head to Oklahoma junior day in March.
