For Keller Fossil Ridge defensive end Anthony Villalobos, receiving an offer from SMU was a giant weight lifted off his shoulders and pure validation for the hard work he has put in his entire high school career.
The SMU offer, which is his first and only current offer, came just before junior day, was a dream come true defensive lineman.
"I was so happy. More than anything I was relieved," he said. "To finally get an offer was a blessing."
Villalobos, who stands at 6-foot-2, 245-pounds, attended SMU junior day and enjoyed his visit because he was able to learn more about a school he could very well end up at soon.
"It was my first time really seeing the program," he said. "I liked the campus and the facilities a lot."
However, SMU's junior day will not be his last, as he is looking forward to checking out Kansas State, Rice and TCU at their respective junior days.
Although the junior day locations change, what Villalobos is looking for in a program does not. He says finding a school with a mix of top notch academics and football is his top priority.
"Mostly I am looking at academics," he said. "I want to find the school with the best combination of athletics and academics."
Being a 2014 recruit, Villalobos has plenty of time to make up his mind but already does have a time frame for when he wants to make his decision.
"I'm going to be patient, but I want to decided before the season starts so I can focus on football," he said.
