Dallas Carter DB Interested In SMU

SMU defensive backs coach Derrick Odum has been in contact with a local cornerback. Come inside to find out who he is and if he's interested!

It seems Jason Phillips isn't the only SMU coach trying to infiltrate DISD. Defensive backs coach Derrick Odum is on the trail and targeting Dallas Carter cornerback Chad Shannon.

"I've been talking to Coach Odum. I've been trying to keep in contact with him as much as possible," Shannon said. "He's been telling me about SMU and what they're about. He hasn't mentioned an offer but says he wants to come see me."

If Odum does decide to extend an offer, Shannon said he would really think about committing. The 5-foot-8, 140-pounder was on the Hilltop for junior day last month and was wowed by the campus and facilities.

"It just felt like a family environment. I liked all the training facilities and the school," he said. "SMU is a great school. It's close to home, and I can take care of my family if I go there."

Shannon, who also holds interest from Oklahoma State and Missouri, says he doesn't have any other junior day plans and says he's focused on getting better this offseason after transferring from Dallas Kimball.

"Last year was actually my first year at Kimball. I'm glad to be back at Carter," Shannon said. "I've been working a lot with the team. I want be a leader like Brandon Hines was for us at Kimball last year. My goal is to just to help Carter win a state championship."
