Baze Holds High Interest In SMU

Prime Prep wide receiver Bobby Baze was on the Hilltop for SMU Junior Day last month. Did he enjoy his visit? Come inside to find out!

SMU is making a strong push for a couple of Prime Prep prospects, namely 2014 outside linebacker Josh Ehambe and 2015 wide receiver James Proche. Both already hold offers and Bobby Baze could be next in line.

The 5-foot-10, 150-pound wide receiver accompanied Ehambe and Proche to SMU Junior Day last month and was blown away with not only the program but also the prestigious academics offered on the Hilltop.

"I really liked it a lot. The area and the campus were really nice. SMU is a really good school. They told us a lot about the academics, and I was impressed," he said. "I want to do something in education like be a teacher or a coach so I thought that was great. It's close to home, and it would be great to play in front of family."

Earlier this spring, Baze also attended Baylor's junior and says the school currently tops his list. However, SMU is closing the gap.

"I could definitely see myself playing there. I know they are moving to a bigger conference so it sounds more appealing," Baze said. "There is going to be more talent there than in Conference USA. The Big East would be a good conference to play in."

Baze, who is also attracting interest from Iowa, Oklahoma State, TCU and Tulsa, had three catches for 77 yards in Prime Prep's shortened season last year. Although those numbers won't wow anybody, Baze believes he can compete at a high level and is ready to prove it in the fall.

"This year I personally want to have over 50 catches," he said. "I've been working really hard this offseason to help us go undefeated."
