SMU Offers Local 2015 Running Back

SMU extended an offer to 2015 Rockwall running back Chris Warren. Is he interested? Come inside to find out!

Running back doesn't seem to be a top priority for SMU in the Class of 2014. But next year's class could be a different story.

2015 Mesquite Horn tail back Jarrison Stewart picked up an offer from the Mustangs a few months ago and now, Rockwall's Chris Warren can be added to the offer list.

Warren, who already holds offers from schools such as Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas, says the SMU offer caught him off guard on Wednesday. Before this week, he had hardly heard anything from the coaching staff.

"My coach came up to me and asked me if I knew I had an offer from SMU, and I told him no," Warren said. "He told me that one of the coaches (Tom Mason) had stopped by and told him that they had offered a while ago. When he told me that, I was pretty excited."

Warren admits that he doesn't know too much about SMU at the moment but says he's looking forward to hearing more about the program and likes what the school has to offer academically.

"It would be awesome to go to SMU because it's a really great school. I know it's really prestigious so it would be an honor." he said. "It's also close to home so that's nice too."

Warren has visited all three Big 12 programs that have extended offers and will make the short trip to SMU in the next couple of months. Last summer, Warren attended a camp on the Hilltop and was impressed with the limited glimpse at the campus.

"I thought everything was really nice. The camp was great," he said. "I think that it's really cool that it's in the middle of Dallas, and it has that city feel. It was good to see everything."

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder broke out as a sophomore and rushed for 1,059 yards and 13 touchdowns. But he's not satisfied. Warren is working on taking more of a leadership role this offseason in order to ensure a playoff berth for his team.

"We are really focused on winning. That's our main goal," he said. "Right now, we're still trying to work out the kinks with this new staff, but I feel like we'll be ready to go in about a month."
