Neithercut Speaks To Mason

Frisco Centennial cornerback Ian Neithercut recently spoke to SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason. Is he close to picking up an offer? Come inside to find out!

When going up against wide receivers like Ole Miss signee Quincy Adeboyejo and Arizona State signee Ellis Jefferson, Frisco Centennial defensive back Ian Neithercut did more than hold his own.

Neithercut was one of the bright spots of the Quick Twitch event this past weekend and showed off his quickness and ability to match up with taller and more physical wide outs.

"I thought I did good out here," he said. "It was great getting to go up against some of the top receivers in the area. I really thought I competed and showed what I could do."

At 5-foot-9, 170-pounds, some schools have shied away from recruiting Neithercut because of his size. But not SMU.

Neithercut attended SMU junior day earlier this spring and spoke to defensive coordinator Tom Mason last week.

"I emailed him and then we were able to talk on the phone. He told me they were still interested in me and that he would be out to watch me in the spring," Neithercut said. "He's a really cool guy and someone I would want to play for. I'm looking forward to him coming up and watching me."

If he has a similar performance to the one he had at Quick Twitch then Neithercut could be well on his way to picking up an offer from SMU.

"I just need to show Coach Mason what I can do," Neithercut said. "He said he would decide on an offer after watching me so I just have to show him how hard I've been working this offseason."

Last season, Neithercut racked up 75 tackles and three interceptions while playing opposite of TCU signee Ranthony Texada. North Texas, Rice and ULM have all shown strong interest. But SMU would be his favorite if Mason does in fact extend an offer.

"I really like what SMU has to offer," he said. "It's a great school academically, and it's close to home. If they were to offer, SMU would definitely be at the top of my list."
