Yet another 2014 offer went out on Tuesday evening when FB Hightower linebacker Matthew Adams received an email from SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason entailing his desire for Adams to come and join the Mustang family.
"He emailed me saying that he was waiting on me to commit," Adams said. "Then my coach called me and told me that he called and extended me an offer today."
Mason made it out to watch Adams practice last week and liked what he saw from the 6-foot-1 210-pound athlete. Adams, who currently has an offer list that includes Houston, Tulsa and Boise State, says right now, SMU ranks right up there with them.
"Right now, everybody is on the same level," Adams said. "I want to take my college visits so that I can make the right decision."
Adams says the things that coaches like about his game are the fact that he is athletic as well as versatile. Adams has the ability to play both inside and outside linebacker.
Adams, who will be going into his senior year, characterized the Hurricanes' 5-5 2012 season as a rebuilding year since there were a plethora of seniors that graduated after Hightower made it to the state final the year prior.
Adams says that this year, he's looking forward to stepping up as a veteran as well as getting back to Hightower's usual display of dominance.
"I learned a lot from the ones who graduated last year," Adams said. "They taught me about an entirely different side of football that I didn't know about so I'm using it as a tool. My expectations for this next season are real high."
This spring Adams has been doing power cleans to increase his strength and fine tuning the aspects of his game that are not up to his level of satisfaction.
Although most athletes would like to see their list of offers fill up a full page of notebook paper, Adams says that the number of offers he gets really does not matter.
"The less offers I get, the easier my choice will be," Adams said.
Adams says if he wants any school to send over an offer, it is Georgia- the school his favorite player, Alec Ogletree, attended. Ogletree was recently selected 30th overall in the 2013 draft by the St. Louis Rams.
