Hill Offers East Texas Tight End

SMU offered Tyler Lee TE Matthew Weeks. Is he interested?

SMU defensive line coach Bert Hill has been trying to make an impact in East Texas for quite sometime now and is getting a jump start in 2015 with Tyler Lee tight end Matthew Weeks.

Late last week Hill made an in-school visit and decided to formally extend an offer to the intriguing 6-foot-5, 255-pound prospect.

"Coach Hill came by the school and gave my coach his number and told him to tell me to call him. I did, and he offered me," Weeks said. "I was pretty surprised and excited. He told me that he really liked me. He just seems like a great guy."

This is Weeks' first offer, but the to be junior has already received camp invitations from Air Force, Kansas State and Michigan.

Weeks doesn't exactly know where SMU ranks among his top schools but has interest in what the Mustangs have to offer. He admits he doesn't know too much about the program but hopes to find out more on a summer visit.

"I'm definitely interested because its my first offer, but I still have to do some more research," Weeks said. "I know they have a good history. Coach Hill told me a little about their academics too. He also said to sit down with my parents and talk about it."

Although the Run N' Shoot does not currently incorporate the tight end very much, the offense is evolving, and Weeks is interested in learning how he can fit in.

"I just need to talk to the coaches about it, but I feel like I have good hands," he said. "I'm just trying to get faster and stronger now."

Last season, Weeks earned all-district honorable mention but has been limited this spring due to a knee injury. It should be noted that Weeks will slide to left tackle this year so it'll be interesting to see what position the Ponies plan on recruiting him at.
