2013 Profile: Kolney Cassel
BE: Who is your favorite football player of all-time and why?
KC: Brett Favre. I've always looked up to him, and I feel like I'm a similar person.
BE: Which team is your favorite pro team and why?
KC: Houston Texans. I've always liked underdogs, and they weren't always the best team when they started and now they're one of the best teams in the league. I've liked them ever since they started their franchise.
BE: What is your favorite food?
KC: I love authentic Mexican. My girlfriend's dad makes the best food.
BE: What is your favorite movie and why?
KC: It's between ‘The Longest Yard' and ‘Gridiron Gang.' I love football movies.
BE: Who is your favorite musical artist and why?
KC: Justin Beiber. Just kidding. It's Kid Ink because I like his music, his flow and his lyrics.
BE: What are some of your other hobbies besides playing football?
KC: I love hanging out with my girlfriend and with my family. I'm not a big party guy. I'm really laid back when I'm not working out and playing football.
BE: What's your most memorable moment from your high school career?
KC: Beating our cross-town rival in football my junior year. They were supposed to be state champions, but we showed them that we don't care about predictions and talking. So we went out and played to the end.
BE: What's a fun fact about you that not very many people know?
KC: I'm a very good actor. Describe a character, and I'll act it out. I'm very open and don't care much about what people think.
BE: What are your thoughts on leaving home and playing at SMU?
KC: It's going to be hard at first leaving the people I love, but it's for the best and I'm excited to play and get an education. I promised myself I would not change who I am and I'm sticking to it. I'm going to work every day and focus on football and my future in college.
BE: What is one thing you've been trying to improve on this offseason?
KC: Getting stronger and my footwork.
BE: What school would you have chosen if you hadn't picked SMU?
KC: Well before I chose to commit to SMU, BYU and Hawaii were talking to me and said they were planning on offering, but SMU was the right fit all around.
BE: Besides football, what's the thing you're looking forward to the most at SMU?
KC: Getting a good education to support my future.
BE: What do you plan on majoring in at SMU?
KC: Sports Management, I think.
BE: What is your goal for the upcoming season?
KC: To learn as much as I can from the other quarterbacks and hopefully compete for the starting position.
BE: What do you want to say to Mustang fans?
KC: I'm looking forward to bringing winning seasons and adding on to the fan base. Hopefully, we can make SMU a household name again.
