Wyatt Closing In On SMU Offer

Wylie East defensive back Jordan Wyatt may be offered soon

Wylie East defensive back Jordan Wyatt holds offers from Iowa State and Navy but has gained interest from Iowa, Oklahoma State, Utah State, Illinois, Air Force and especially SMU.

So far SMU has been the only trip Wyatt has taken but he plans to visit both Iowa and Iowa St. this summer. On his visit last weekend he met his recruiter, SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason, and got a great feel for the campus, which he has taken a liking too.

"It's a very nice campus," Wyatt said. "They have a very good academic program, a good football program and the facilities are nice. It's just a great school."

Wyatt says SMU has been strongly pursuing him stating he has a 90 percent chance of being offered. The junior is expecting to host SMU on Friday when Mason watches Wyatt at practice.

The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back says he has been recruited primarily as a cornerback but some schools have mentioned the possibility of him becoming a safety.

Having more experience lining up across from receivers, Wyatt says he's more accustomed to being a cornerback but feels comfortable at both positions. Wyatt says as long as he is in the defensive backfield he can make plays.

This offseason Wyatt has been focusing on both the physical part of his game as well as the technical. Wyatt says that he wants to be at the top of his game for his senior campaign.

"I'm working hard getting better," Wyatt said. "I'm getting bigger, stronger, faster and quicker as well as working on my footwork. I'm trying to be the best I can be. I'm trying to get my name out there."

Texas Tech, Iowa and LSU are the schools Wyatt hopes to get offers from next. The three things he is looking for most in a school are tradition, great academics and a comfortable atmosphere.
