Local Offensive Lineman Picks Up SMU Offer

Southlake Carroll OL Evan Brown recently visited SMU after receiving an offer

Southlake Carroll has long been known for churning out some of the top prospects every year in Texas, and it's because of the high level of competition the Dragons face each year.

One player who has benefitted from that competition is 6-foot-3, 290-pound offensive tackle Evan Brown. Brown was offered by SMU's offensive line coach Wes Suan last week and has SMU right at the top of his list.

"Coach Suan told me to give him a call after practice, and I did. After talking for a little bit, he told me he was offering," Brown said. "I talked to him once or twice and then this past Saturday, we went up there and visited with him for a little bit. We're setting up another visit soon."

Brown has finals coming up and will be in contact with Suan to get his more in-depth visit set up soon after. But during his short time on campus, he really liked what he had to see.

"SMU really has a great education and that's what I'm really looking for to go along with football," he said. "They're definitely at the top or one of the top two on my list so far."

Yale and Tulsa have also offered Brown. But more offers could be on their way. Brown attended junior days at Stanford, TCU and Texas A&M and also made an unofficial visit to Georgia Tech.

Brown dominated the competition from right tackle and earned first team all-district honors, but there will be a position change for him if he heads to the Hilltop.

"Coach Suan told me I'd be an inside guy, and I've been working there this spring so I'm fine with it," Brown said. "I haven't met too many of the other coaches, but Coach Suan is a nice guy and he's a good coach."

Southlake Carroll's tradition of winning against the best has Brown feeling good about making the transition to college when the time comes. He hopes to make his final decision some time next month.
