5-Star Big Man Considering Visit To SMU

Cliff Alexander has plenty of options. Where does SMU stand?

Jahlil Okafor might be the top ranked player in the Class of 2014, but his AAU teammate, five-star big man Cliff Alexander of Curie Metropolitan (IL), has been the most impressive player so far this spring.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pounder dominated the Nike EYBL session in Dallas last and hopes to learn more about SMU.

"I really don't know much about the school," he said. "I just know the coaching staff and I'm friends with Sterling Brown and Ben Moore. I'm going to talk to them about it if the school keeps up their interest in me."

Alexander has offers from numerous major programs around the country, including Kentucky, Michigan State, and Illinois. He has been denying rumors on Twitter about the possibility of him narrowing down to those three schools.

"I'm taking all my visits in the fall," he said. "I don't really want to focus on recruiting during AAU season, but I will probably come down for a visit and talk to Coach (Larry) Brown. I want to know how each coach is planning on using me before I make a decision."

Alexander's game is built on energy and toughness. He is a monster in the paint and enjoys being physical with his opponent. During this EYBL season, Alexander has averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game for Mac Irvin Fire.

"I think I have played pretty well," he said. "I try and dominate the glass and block shots every night because I always know I can play great defense. Its my offensive game that's still developing."

Alexander prefers playing power forward instead of center, so he is working on a mid-range jump shot for college.

Ideally, he wants to be in a running system that allows him plenty of freedom. SMU may try and ramp up their recruiting efforts for Alexander this fall even without Jerrance Howard.
