SMU Offers Louisiana Athlete

Edna Karr ATH Glenn Irons picked up an SMU offer this weekend!

It seems SMU is starting to target more and more prospects from the state of Louisiana in 2014. And over the weekend, an offer went out to Edna Karr athlete Glenn Irons.

"I was at a 7-on-7 tournament, and my coach told me that SMU had offered me," Irons said. "I was really excited about it. But at the same time, I was surprised because I hadn't heard anything from them."

Irons has flown a bit under the radar despite earning all-state honors and helping Edna Karr to a 14-0 record and a state title last season. The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder started at wide receiver and recorded 500 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.

But some schools are looking at Irons on the defensive side as a cornerback. Wherever he lines up, Irons feels he can be a difference maker.

"I've been doing both at camps and have been doing well. I think I can play both in college, pretty much wherever they need me," he said. "But I feel I'm a better receiver because that's where I've been playing. I don't know where SMU is recruiting me at because I haven't talked to any of the coaches."

Despite not having any type of contact with anybody from the Mustang program, Irons says he's still interested and is somewhat familiar with the campus.

"I am interested in them. Right now, they would probably be in my top five," he said. "We played Arlington Bowie my sophomore year in a nationally televised game so we practiced there. I got to see the stadium and walk around the campus. It was really nice."

Irons also holds offers from Louisiana Lafayette and Western Kentucky as well as a couple of FCS schools including his current favorite- Old Dominion.

He says he is not sure if he'll make it down to SMU this summer but has plans to camp at Louisiana Lafayette and Northwestern State in the next couple of months. Irons hopes to make a decision by the end of his senior season.
