Cyphers Holds SMU Offer

Oaks Christian (CA) cornerback Malik Cyphers talks about SMU inside!

2014 cornerback Malik Cyphers received a football scholarship before entering his sophomore season. It is quite natural to think that the school holding him in such high regard would maintain communication with him throughout his high school development.

However; for one reason or another, that simply is not the case. Former SMU coach Adrien Klem, regarded as one of the more aggressive recruiters in SMU's recent history, was the coach who extended the offer to Cyphers back in the 2010-2011 school year.

Klem has since taken a coaching opportunity at UCLA which could very well be the reason why Cyphers hasn't heard from SMU in almost three years.

Cyphers currently holds offers from SMU, Idaho, UNLV, New Mexico St, and Portland State. The cornerback says that although he is blessed to have received these offers, he is confident that there are more to come.

"I feel like Oregon State and Colorado are close to offering," Cyphers said. "Maybe UCLA, Washington and Washington State as well. I've been keeping up with the coaches over the process of this offseason going into my senior year."

Thus far, Cyphers has taken unofficial visits to Boise State, Georgia Tech and Tennessee and says that he enjoyed each of the campuses and their coaching staffs.

As of now, Idaho and New Mexico State are at the top of Cyphers' list but he says he plans on keeping his options open until signing day.

"Right now the school I'm feeling best about would be between Idaho and New Mexico St," Cyphers said. "I feel like both programs have shown me a lot of love and attention and it's really catching my eye but my mind is still open until signing day."

Cyphers says he has heard that SMU is a nice place and a great school and that there is a possibility for them to come back into the equation. However with the number of other schools already on his radar, SMU would have to act quickly before it's too late.
