Three-Star Safety Still Interested

Tyler John Tyler DB Terry Ausborne talks about SMU and more inside!

2014 Tyler John Tyler safety Terry Ausborne is nearly halfway through his final high school season, yet at this point, the 5-foot-9, 165-pound speedster is still not ready to make his college decision.

While Ausborne is focused on the season at hand and taking his team deep into playoffs, he hopes his play could help spark interest in him.

"It has been pretty much the same so far," Ausborne said. "I've been consistently getting a lot of mail from a couple of schools, but I'm always hungrier for more."

Houston, UTSA and TCU have been in regular contact with Ausborne, but SMU is still the only school that has offered the East Texas safety. Last Spring, the Mustangs pulled the trigger and offered the safety, which was a big relief for Ausborne.

"It was just nice to finally get that first offer," explained Ausborne. "Hopefully there will be more to come."

Since then, Ausborne has maintained some communication with his recruiter and defensive line coach Bert Hill and is still very interested in the school for a variety of reasons including the scenery on the Hilltop.

Over the summer, the three-star prospect had a chance to visit the campus and was blown away by its beauty.

"The campus was really nice and it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be," Ausborne said. "It was one of the nicest campuses I've seen."

While the campus and football facilities are important to Ausborne, nothing is more important than picking a school with a good education.

"Education is the main thing I'm worried about, so the school has to be academically strong," Ausborne said. "I like how SMU gets you on track and helps you work towards your goal."

Although Ausborne does have a lot of interest in SMU, he is not ready to fully commit to the Mustangs and would like to see if he can pick up some more offers before the end of the season.

Last week, Ausborne helped Tyler John Tyler defeat Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, 51-14, and returned an interception for a touchdown. Through five games, he's recorded 34 tackles and one interception.
