Predicting The Rest Of The Season

We take a look at SMU's remaining football schedule!

SMU at Memphis- Saturday, October 19

SMU heads to Memphis after their bye week and should be able to get its first ever AAC win over the Tigers, who have struggled with Paul Lynch running the show at quarterback. SMU's defense should be able to handle Lynch, who threw two interceptions against UCF. Gilbert will make enough plays to beat the Tigers and get SMU back on track after three straight losses.

Prediction: The defense shuts down Memphis, 35-6.

SMU vs. Temple- Saturday, October 26

Temple is just terrible this year, and it appears that the Owls are ready to take their lumps with freshman quarterback P.J. Walker since benching Connor Reilly during the Louisville game. Louisville dominated Temple and SMU will likely do the same. Temple does not have a running game so look for SMU to try to make Walker to beat SMU with his arm.

Prediciton: SMU wins behind Gilbert's five total touchdowns, 56-10.

SMU at Cincinnati- Saturday, November 9

Cincinnati has had inconsistent play from quarterback Brendan Kay, and this game isn't different, but Gilbert and the SMU offense will have an inconsistent day on the road as well. Gilbert will work SMU down the field though for a game winning score, and SMU will beat the Bearcats.

Prediction: SMU wins a close one, 24-21.

SMU vs Connecticut- Saturday, November 16

SMU hosts another one of the AAC bottom feeders coming off its win over Cincinnati and as long as SMU doesn't take Connecticut lightly, the Mustangs should be able to continue gaining momentum. Quarterback play has been a struggle for the Huskies and SMU's defense will force a few turnovers in the game to keep the Huskies from establishing any momentum in the game.

Prediction: Mustangs win big, 35-10.

SMU at South Florida- Saturday, November 23

USF has been truly terrible under first-year coach Willie Taggart and while the Bulls got their first win over Cincinnati, they still are a mess on offense. The USF defense has struggled as well, giving up plenty of points and at this point in the season, Gilbert should be able to pick them apart for an easy win down in South Florida.

Prediction: SMU rolls behind Gilbert's big day, 42-10.

SMU at Houston- Friday, November 29

A rivalry held over from the C-USA and SWC days, SMU will come out fired up and ready to beat the Cougars over Thanksgiving, but SMU will not be able to keep up and eventually will fall on the road. Gilbert is efficient but doesn't make as many plays as Cougars' quarterback John O' Korn, who leads his team by SMU.

Prediction: SMU loses on the road in a heartbreaker, 42-39.

SMU vs UCF- Saturday, December 7

UCF was extremely close to being undefeated but lost to South Carolina when it could not complete the comeback, but the Knights are really strong and could challenge Louisville for the conference crown. Even though SMU's offense could be significantly improved by the end of the season, UCF is too strong with Blake Bortles running the show. Bortles will be able to have a successful day against an SMU pass defense that has struggled.

Prediction: UCF wins 42-24 behind Bortles big day.

Final Regular Season Results: 6-6.
