Pony Stampede TV: Football Friday Preview

We preview SMU vs. Temple and offer predictions inside!

What to Watch on Offense for SMU

Running game. With Traylon Shead rushing for his SMU career high 83 yards on 22 carries last week, SMU has some momentum for the first time in the running game. It was a nice surprise for the Mustangs, who struggled with consistency in the running game so far this year. K.C. Nlemchi also saw a fair amount of time working with the first team this week so watch for SMU to maybe get him the ball a little more this week if the Mustangs can get up on Temple early.

What to Watch on Offense for Temple

P.J. Walker. Anytime you've got a true freshman going on the road, it's a toss up for the most part, but Walker has performed well the last couple of weeks. That has to give him some confidence going into this game that he can attack defenses with his arm and with SMU's 108th ranked pass defense, he has reason to believe he can succeed against them.

What to Watch on Defense for SMU

Pass Defense. With starting safety Hayden Greenbauer now lost for the season, Shakiel Randolph will have to step up in place of Greenbauer. The pass defense hasn't been spectacular by any means, which makes losing Greenbauer that much tougher. Walker has been improving over the last two games and if SMU cannot contain the Owls' passing game, Temple may just be able to pull the upset.

What to Watch on Defense for Temple

Matakevich. The tackling machine for Temple that is Tyler Matakevich will be all over the field trying to make stops against the SMU offense. The sophomore will undoubtedly be trying to stuff the SMU running game, plus he has an interception on the year too so Gilbert must watch out for where he is. If Matakevich can create some turnovers and come up with some tackles for loss and a sack, SMU could be in for a long day on offense.

Key to the Game

Running Game. SMU does not want to mess around with poor clock management in this game. Run the ball with Traylon Shead and Gilbert will be able to hit timely throws for the big win.

Prediction: SMU wins, 42-10.
