How it happened: SMU jumped out to a 21-8 lead behind the solid offensive play of Nic Moore and energy of Yanick Moreira. But once the Horned Frogs settled down, they were able to scratch and claw their way back into the game. It seemed like TCU guard Brandon Parrish could not be stopped as he hit multiple 3-pointers and helped the Horned Frogs cut the lead to one at halftime. TCU started the second half on a 7-0 run, but Moore and Cannen Cunningham helped SMU recapture the lead soon after. The Mustangs played better defense throughout the half, and TCU never led again. Moore led the Mustangs with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Keith Frazier added 11 points off the bench.

What means: SMU still needs to gel. TCU is not a great team, and SMU should have won handily after taking a big lead early on. It's clear the chemistry is not there yet, but that doesn't mean the Mustangs shouldn't be able to contend with the AAC's best later in the season as the team continues to bond. Larry Brown had plenty of teaching points today. He often told Frazier to slow down, tried to help Yanick Moreira with his offense and made room for Moore on the bench to share some knowledge. The bottom line though is SMU is 1-0.

Side note: Jalen Jones did not dress out for SMU. The reason is currently unknown, but we hope to have the answer after the press conference. Last year's leading scorer could have added some offense. Also, Emmanuel Mudiay was in attendance, and the students started a very loud Mudiay chant.

Next: SMU will take on Rhode Island on Monday in Garland. Last season, Rhode Island finished just 8-21 so this should be another winnable game for the Ponies.
