2014 shooting guard Micah Seaborn is not the most highly-touted of SMU's recruits, nor does he currently hold an SMU offer.
But don't be surprised if the two-star senior from Prime Prep joins the Mustangs next season as a preferred walk-on.
"It sounds like their interest is medium right now," Seaborn said. "The last time I talked to them they said they're trying to get all their scholarships taken care of and then they'd get back to me."
For his part, Seaborn likes what SMU has to offer.
"I like SMU a lot, especially with E-Man going there," Seaborn said about his Prime Prep teammate and SMU commit Emmanuel Mudiay. "E-Man is like my brother. I've known him since we were six."
Seaborn and Mudiay have a long history that could convince Seaborn to choose to walk on at SMU rather than accept a scholarship at another school. Mudiay has been lobbying for the SMU staff to show interest in Seaborn since he verbally committed in the summer.
The 6-foot-5, 185-pounder has been primarily recruited by SMU assistant coach Ulric Maligi and has met assistant coach K.T. Turner as well. Seaborn was also invited to watch the Mustangs in action against TCU in the season opener at American Airlines Center.
"In the summer I talked to (Maligi) a lot but now that the season's started we have both been more focused on our games," Seaborn said. "I went to the SMU-TCU game. I like the way (SMU) plays a lot. They get up and down a lot so I like that. I'm going to be at the game when they first open up Moody."
Seaborn has received the most attention from UNT, Sam Houston and Ryder so far in his recruitment and might make unofficial visits to those programs as well in the spring. But for now he's focused on his senior season.
Seaborn is a good scorer and plays well away from the ball on offense. This year his goal is to get stronger and improve his ball handling. Thanks to Mudiay and Seaborn, Prime Prep is off to a 5-0 start.
