Rapid Reaction: SMU Blows Out Hofstra

Get our immediate reaction after SMU's victory inside!

How It Happened: SMU showed no signs of fatigue in the second half of its back-to-back. Nic Moore and Nick Russell got the scoring started for SMU while Shawn Williams and Markus Kennedy took some time to find their rhythm. Once they did though, there was no way Hofstra could stop SMU's big men. Williams and Kennedy dominated the post on both ends of the court and also received big contributions from Cannen Cunningham and Ben Moore. Overall, it was a balanced offensive effort from the Mustangs as ten SMU players put points on the board. Keith Frazier missed his only shot of the first half but found his stroke in the second half, igniting the crowd by hitting a series of jumpers. Defensively, the Mustangs were fantastic. Hofstra only made its 10th field goal with less than ten minutes remaining in the second half. Williams in particular did a great job of going straight up to contest shots and not commit fouls. It all added up to a 73-49 victory for the Mustangs.

What It Means: SMU took care of business against USF, UCF and Hofstra so they can ride that momentum into its game on Tuesday.

Side Note: SMU put on a serious aerial performance tonight, with Nic Moore and Russell throwing a series of lobs to Ben Moore, Kennedy and Cunningham. Cunningham in particular put together his own personal highlight reel tonight.

Up Next: SMU hosts Rutgers Tuesday night in an American Athletic Conference matchup. This will be the first big matchup for SMU in the New Moody with the students all back in school so expect an absolutely electric atmosphere.
