5-Star Center Enjoys Another SMU Visit

Lancaster big man Elijah Thomas talks about his time on campus and more!

After missing the SMU vs. UCF game on March 1st, five-star big man Elijah Thomas from Lancaster HS wasn't going to miss the Mustangs last home game of the season.

Thomas has been on the Hilltop for five games this year already, but says his most recent visit for the SMU vs. Louisville game had the best atmosphere.

"It's a really good game and a great environment. SMU played well in the first half, but Louisville came back," he said. "They just turned the ball over too much, but they hung in there with a good team. I like the way they played."

Thomas is staying in constant contact with the SMU coaching staff and has been following the team's development throughout the season. He says he really likes new Moody Coliseum and wants to see the rest of the campus soon.

"I like SMU a lot. I talk to coach Maligi a whole lot and I think they have a great staff," Thomas said. "I haven't actually checked out SMU's campus yet. I have just seen the stadium and a few games. I will eventually take an official visit though."

At 6-foot-9 and 250 pounds, Thomas is one of the top ranked players in the class of 2015 and being recruited by almost every major program in the country. He currently has 24 schools on his list, but says he has started the process of narrowing them down.

"I plan on taking all five of my official visits, so I'm working on figuring out what schools those will be," Thomas said. "I'm taking the process one day at a time. I don't even know where else I will visit besides SMU yet. Other than that, everything is kind of up in the air right now."

Thomas took an unofficial visit to Memphis this weekend and checked out the Mustangs vs. Tigers game. Memphis wasn't on Thomas's most recent list of schools, so he may have just wanted to keep tabs on SMU.

Thomas is also good friends with multiple top-ranked players around the country and may want to team up with one of his friends in college. The Mustangs only commit in the class of 2015 right now is three-star point guard Sedrick Barefield from Centennial HS (CA).

Barefield and Thomas are good friends and have been in contact on social media frequently the last couple of weeks. Barefield encouraged Thomas to "get on it fam" the night he committed and the two continue to talk.

"I actually talked to him today," Thomas told me after the game Wednesday night. "I also talked to him the day he committed, but that's about it. I definitely have some interest in playing with him and going to school with him. That would be pretty cool."
