Rapid Reaction: SMU Powers Past LSU

Come inside for our immediate reaction following SMU's win over LSU!

How it happened: SMU used a second half surge to advance out of the second round of the NIT and past the LSU Tigers. The Mustangs were lead by sophomore point guard Nic Moore, who finished with 16 points and five assists on 6 for 9 shooting, and senior guard Nick Russell, who had 16 points on 6 for 8 shooting. The Tigers took a 40-35 lead into halftime lead mostly by Johnny O'Bryant III and Andre Stringer, but couldn't contain the Mustangs in the second half. O'Bryant III was a beast inside for LSU and finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds. However, SMU turned it around after halftime with lights out shooting and great defense. Freshman Keith Frazier, 11 points, and Ben Moore, 6 points and 4 rebounds, provided great energy off the bench and Markus Kennedy had his usual strong performance with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

What means: The Mustangs season continues as they advance to the third round of the NIT. Their next game will be the last one at Moody Coliseum this season.

Side note: The Mustangs are now 11-1 at Moody Coliseum after this victory. Jae Crowder, Vince Carter, Samuel Dalembert, Tony Dorsett, and Quinton Ross were among those in attendance tonight.
