Get to Know: Evan Brown

Come inside to get to know the latest signee in SMU's 2014 class!

The SMU coaching staff added a few talented recruits in the class of 2014 to help solve the team's offensive line issues from last year.

The player expected to make the biggest impact upfront is 6-foot-3, 290-pound Evan Brown from Southlake Carroll.

"It's going to be a really good time," Brown said. "I'm ready to get back into the flow football because normally I would be doing spring ball right now. I haven't had an offseason, so I'm ready to get up to SMU and get back into football."

Brown also held offers from Tulsa and Yale and received interest from schools like Stanford, TCU, and Texas A&M. His relationship with offensive line coach Wes Suan was one of the biggest reasons he decided to become a Mustang.

"I talked to Coach Suan about a week ago or so. He was just checking up on me to see how I'm doing," Brown said. "We talked about where I fit into the situation and playing college football. He's a great guy."

Brown says the SMU coaching staff advised him to continue to work hard and be "ready to roll in July when we show up." He doesn't know whether or not he will get immediate playing time, but Brown has been preparing like he will.

"I've mainly just been working out a lot. I work with a few my high school buddies. I'm just getting better at everything," Brown said. "I'm really strong, so I'm working on keeping my strength and getting a bit stronger. I'm working on having faster feet and keeping my feet going."

Brown has been spending a lot of time hanging out with his friends and enjoying himself during his last semester of high school. Although he is nervous about the increased competition, Brown says he is excited to play college football at the highest level next season.

"I'm just excited to get to play Division 1 college football. It's always been my goal and a big dream of mine, so it's nice to finally achieve that. That's the biggest thing I'm excited about," Brown said. "I'm a little nervous to go up against good Division 1 athletes over there, but I love a challenge. It will be fun, but nerve racking."
