Billy Embody- Publisher
I'm happy to introduce myself as your publisher and a 2014 SMU graduate.
I've been on the Pony Stampede staff since July 2012 and was promoted to publisher in March 2014. During that time, I earned my journalism and sports management degrees from SMU.
As managing editor, I was responsible for improving our video content for the site and video is something we certainly still like to incorporate when possible with our coverage, especially with the development of Vine and Periscope.
I currently work at The Marketing Arm, a next-generation promotions agency in Dallas, as their communications coordinator. I manage TMA's social media accounts, handle agency and campaign award applications, agency communications and culture initiatives. Before being hired full-time at The Marketing Arm, I was an intern from May 2013 to Dec. 2013.
During football season, I am a Washington Redskins operations assistant, flying out on Thursdays in advance of the team's arrival to coordinate with the hotel, transportation, stadium and ownership's operations' team for away games. My responsibilities include, having room keys ready to go, making sure meeting rooms are all set, buses are in position and other operations tasks.
I've held internships with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their community relations departments.
At SMU, I served as president of my fraternity (Fiji) and on the Interfraternity Council. My biggest accomplishment though, was being a co-founder and executive producer of Press Pass: SMU's Spotlight on Sports, a weekly sportscast recapping the week in SMU and national sports. I also wrote for The Daily Campus all four years as a sports staff writer.
Looking forward to continuing to give you the best SMU sports coverage! Now to introduce the great staff that really makes this site go!
Scott Sanford- Managing Editor
Scott, a Journalism major and Sport Management minor at SMU, is set to graduate from The Hilltop in May 2015. Scott has been on the Ponystampede staff since August 2013 and was promoted to managing editor in August 2014.
During his time at SMU, Scott has worked for both print and broadcast outlets. He briefly worked for SMU's Daily Campus?, as well as interned for the ABC and NBC television affiliates in Los Angeles as the sports department intern. In August 2014, Scott also took over as one of three executive producers of SMU's student-run sports show, Press Pass: SMU's Spotlight on Sports, where he had the opportunities to interview prominent SMU sports figures such as Chad Morris, Semi Ojeleye and Ben Hicks.
Scott's love for sports comes from his father and his time on the football field and baseball diamond during high school.
Andrew Hattersley- Staff Writer
My name is Andrew Hattersley. I am a senior at SMU majoring in Sport Management and Convergence Journalism. I have been covering SMU sports for 2 years while working on a weekly sports show “Press Pass: SMU’s Spotlight on Sports."
As part of this I have covered football, basketball as well producing stories for many other sports such as golf, soccer, volleyball and cross-country. In addition to covering the sports, we also write our own scripts and post the shows up on the website following the broadcast. I did work on College Signing Day this past spring, including a live show recapping the recruits that would be coming to the Hilltop. Before that, during my freshman year, I was a staff writer for the SMU Daily Campus covering soccer and golf.
I also completed an internship with 105.3 “The Fan” this past summer covering Rangers and Astros baseball. I prepared clips and postgame interviews to go on the air during fan flashes as well as for TSN the next day in a Rangers and Astros story.
Patrick Engel- Staff Writer
My name is Patrick Engel, and I’m a journalism major at SMU and just finished my sophomore year on the Hilltop. I’m from Evanston, Illinois and I’ve been on the PonyStampede staff since March 2014.
I’ve covered a little bit of everything for PonyStampede since joining – football recruiting, basketball recruiting, AAU tournaments, high school football camps, and of course SMU football and basketball games and practices.
As a freshman, I interned with Jon Horton at PonyUpTV, where I was on the sidelines at football and basketball games shooting video. Additionally, I started working with Billy on Press Pass: SMU’s spotlight in sports, which is SMU-TV’s weekly sports show. I continued it with Scott and Andrew my sophomore year and was just named the show’s executive producer for the 2015-16 school year. I’ve also served as the primary sports staff writer for The Daily Campus, SMU’s student newspaper, since August 2014.
I’m always available to talk about anything SMU-related and any sports topic. You can email me anytime at email@example.com or reach out to me on twitter @PatrickEngel_. I’ve loved every minute of my job at PonyStampede. I’m committed to continue bringing you the best SMU sports coverage around!
Demetrio Teniente- Staff Writer
My name is Demetrio Teniente. I am a senior at SMU, majoring in journalism. In 2013 I worked with The Dallas Morning News during the high school football season, and interned with FC Dallas as a writer for their website. During the spring semester of 2014, I interned with 105.3 The Fan’s day time broadcast The G-Bag Nation as an assistant producer. I have also been a contributing writer for several smaller sports blogs- most frequently for DallasSportsRant.com.
At SMU I have worked with the Daily Campus for three years. During that stretch I carved my way from the classifieds section to the sports desk, where I was editor for three semesters.
I love talking sports and I consider myself blessed to be doing what I love. If I wasn’t talking sports with you fine people, I’d be doing it at some bar with my friends. So if you have any comments, questions or threats, please feel free to fire away on Twitter (@Demo36) or e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we can discuss whatever it is you are shouting about.
This is a great staff of writers and I look forward to doing my part to provide you with the most comprehensive and downright awesome SMU sports coverage around. Pony up!
