Ferguson Talks SMU Interest

Adam was at the Pangos All-American Camp and talked with Prime Prep 2016 star Terrance Ferguson!

After listing SMU as one of his top three schools last week, five-star Prime Prep shooting guard Terrance Ferguson participated in the Pangos All-American Camp last weekend in Long Beach.

While there, Ferguson went more in depth about his interest in the Mustangs.

"I love SMU as a school, you know with Larry Brown and (Emmanuel Mudiay) getting there now. And Matt McQuaid, he's from Texas and he committed there," Ferguson said. "So Texas players are going there and we got a Hall of Fame coach. You can't beat that, you can't take them out."

SMU has done well to get ahead early in the race for Ferguson's services; the rising-junior already has offers from the likes of Kansas, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas.

At the camp, Ferguson was on the same team as another highly touted 2016 SMU recruit, point guard De'Aaron Fox. The two rising juniors got along well, wearing their jerseys backwards before the game and laughing throughout drills.

During Scout's interview with Ferguson, Fox twice came over to lean in and listen to Ferguson.

"Right now, I'm working on my strength," Ferguson said before tailing off as Fox leaned in for the second time.

"I'm just here with my boy, working on our one-two punch," Ferguson said with a laugh.

"You already know we might be a package deal," Fox retorted. "Just putting that out there right now."

Fox finally let Ferguson continue and the 6-foot-7, 180 pound shooting guard spoke about what he is working on this summer.

"I'm just working on my all-around game. I don't want to be known as just a shooter," Ferguson said. "I don't want people to know how to play me. I want to have different options I can go to."

At Pangos, Ferguson was excelling in transition. He slipped past the defense numerous times to score easy dunks and layups.

Ferguson says he likes running up and down the court, much like the style SMU employs.

"It start off with defense and that's who I am, a defensive player. When my defense is into it, everything is into it," Ferguson said. "It gets the fast break going and everything like that and that's how I like to play."

Earlier this summer, Ferguson participated in the national team's under-eighteen camp.

"I mean, it was the Team USA Camp. That was the craziest thing in the world," Ferguson said. "It was just a blessing just to get invited to it, just to be a young athlete. It's always been a dream of mine, no matter what team it was, to wear a jersey with ‘USA' across the chest, and I got an opportunity to do that and it was great."

At Prime Prep, Ferguson became very close with his old teammate and new SMU point guard Emmanuel Mudiay. Ferguson says that starting at SMU is all he hears about from Mudiay.

"E-Man, that's all he talks about. If I wear a different college's shirt, he get on me. He tells me to take it off and put on an SMU shirt," Ferguson said. "That's all he talks about. He's really excited to go to SMU and he wants me to go there too. He keeps telling me. Every time we work out he tells me take it off, put SMU on. I tell him he's got to get me some stuff! I don't have that much so he has to give me some."
