June Jones Press Conference
Jonathan Yenga Q&A
Neal Burcham Q&A
Q: First practice preparing for Baylor now, how’d you feel out there?
NB: I felt good. I think obviously there are some things I can work on and some things the offense can work on and get better at, but that’s what this week of practice is for. Overall though, I think it was a good first practice.
Q: Now that you’ve been named the starter, do you feel any more pressure during these practices preparing for game time?
NB: Not really, because I’m going to prepare for each game the same way, whether I’m starting or not. I’ve just got to go out there and do what I can do.
Q: What have you seen from Baylor on tape defensively?
NB: They’re really fast and they’re big too. They’ve got a great front 7 and we’re going to have to be ready for that come Sunday.
Q: What are some things the offense is specifically working on this week?
NB: My main thing is getting the ball out quickly to my receivers. That’s what a lot of this offense is based on so being quick and accurate are very important things.
Q: Sunday will be the opening of Baylor’s new stadium, what do you think that atmosphere is going to be like?
NB: It’s going to be crazy. It’s going to be really loud, and we’ve got to be ready for that. They’re going to be pumped up, and we’re going to be pumped up as well so we just have to match their intensity.
Q: With Baylor’s offense and all their weapons, is there any more pressure on this offense to be ready to put up some points?
NB: We know Baylor has a great offense and they can put up points, but we’re confident in our defense to get stops when we need them too. We’re just going to go out there and do our thing and play to our strengths.
Football Practice Notes
— Today was a lighter practice, with players wearing shoulder pads and shorts.
— JR Richardson had a great pass breakup- diving in front of a receiver to swat the ball away.
— Deion Sanders Jr. had a great practice- making a number of great catches.
— Shakiel Randolph looked really impressive today, his closing speed is great- if they were taking runners to the ground, he would have laid a couple people out.
— Overall, the O-line was very vocal, calling out formations and identifying blitzers.
— Darrion Richardson continued his dominant performance from camp and looked like an absolute beast.
— Stephen Nelson made a couple of really good catches but dropped one towards the end of practice. So he stayed on the field after to put some extra work in catching balls.
