Why Vick committed
Ultimately, Larry Brown and assistant coach Ulric Maligi pushed hard after first watching Vick for him to visit. Once Vick visited, he didn't have to think much on it. It was down to SMU and Georgia Tech in the end, but Vick wanted to pull the trigger. Brown shared his confidence in Vick's game and that's what made him pull the trigger. Scout learned of Vick wanting to commit Tuesday morning and has been on this until Vick officially pulled the trigger after talking with his family and coaches. Vick is the fourth commit for SMU in the 2015 class, but will do prep school and enroll in 2016.
What Vick brings
"LaGerald is a very athletic kid who is just now beginning to figure out how to play basketball. He is a better shooter than most give him credit for, and once he learns to play hard on the defensive end should be a plus-plus defender. He has all the physical gifts in the world, and improved from the spring to the summer to now. He is just now scratching the surface and if he can improve his ball handling he has a chance to be an immediate impact guy." — Scout.com's Brian Snow
How Vick fits
Larry Brown has officially got the backcourt of the future that he wants with plenty of length and athleticism. Vick finishes off the backcourt for SMU and will only grow as a defender with Brown coaching him up. The Mustangs have plenty of talent at guard in the 2015 class and Vick only adds to it next year. Vick improves every day and expect him to make a jump while at prep school and only more at SMU under Brown's tutelage.
How SMU's 2015 class is shaping up
SMU's has built a lot of depth with wing Jarrey Foster and point guards Sedrick Barefield and Shake Milton in the 2015 class. SMU has Wendell Mitchell visiting this weekend, but don't expect Mitchell to fit into SMU's plans and the same goes for Chad Lott. With Vick coming in 2016 and SMU still after Markis McDuffie, SMU will be set with depth for the future.
