Most Important Signee

SMU's three 2015 signees are all suited more as backcourt players, but who stands out the most? The staff gives their picks!

Billy: Sedrick Barefield

The more I watch Sedrick Barefield, the more he reminds me of Nic Moore. Is Shake Milton more of Larry Brown's style of point guard that he wants to recruit? It's looking like it, but Barefield's handles are tremendous and his ability to create off the pick-and-roll will only grow under Brown's tutelage. Barefield plays low to the ground like Moore and it will be interesting to watch the pair battle it out for the next starting point guard spot at SMU. If Barefield gets a year to learn under Moore, watch out. I can see Barefield really taking to Brown's system and thriving. Both are potential four-year players and that is great news for SMU fans, but I see Barefield bringing more to the table as Brown's true point guard.

Scott: Shake Milton

SMU's biggest land in this recruiting class has to be their highest rated player, Shake Milton. Milton brings the ability to play the 1 or 2 and adds a different dimension with his scoring ability. Milton's commitment to SMU carried another level of importance as well. With Mudiay playing overseas, and Matt McQuaid de-committing and committing to Michigan State, Milton is now the highest rated player the Mustangs have landed. Milton shows other top prospects that SMU can compete with the big dogs.

Patrick: Sedrick Barefield

Barefield got the Mustangs class of 2015 started in February, and he has talked up SMU to a lot of his teammates. He has allowed the SMU coaches to gain some traction in California. Two of his younger teammates, big men Ike Anigbogu and Jalen Hill, both have SMU offers.

Hatts: Jarrey Foster

I think the most important signing the Mustangs had was Jarrey Foster. While Shake Milton was a key signing, the fit between Brown and Foster is perfect. Right away, Foster is going to be able to provide a lift on the defensive end of the floor, as well as, attack the basket. What I love about Foster, however, is he is going to learn fast under Larry Brown. Foster absolutely loves the coaching staff and is going to be all ears when they have something to say to him.

Demo: Shake Milton

I gotta say, I think Milton is the most important and not necessarily for good reasons. His signing essentially took SMU out of the running for Elijah Thomas because it deterred Admon Gilder. Had Milton not announced and waited until after Gilder did, SMU might have gotten all three. Gilder, instead chose TAMU and Thomas followed. Ultimately, I think Milton is a better fit on the Hilltop than Gilder, but Thomas would have been sweet.
