SMU G Sterling Brown Q&A

Cannen Cunningham

Cunningham looked much more engaged at practice today after playing only four minutes in the win over Eastern Washington. While he didn’t do anything flashy, he was louder than normal, showed more hustle and didn’t commit any glaring mistakes. He showed energy and passion early in the season, but not against EWU. Today’s practice was a step in the right direction.

Keith Frazier

After his best game as a Mustang on Saturday, Frazier had a good practice. He was in the gym early shooting around. He quickly asked Coach Brown questions when practicing a couple plays, and only forced one shot. Defensively, he continued to hold his own.

DRIBBLE WEAVE

The team did the dribble weave and score drill for the first time in a couple weeks. The full-court drill sees the ball dribbled up the court sideways-ish and handed off to a teammate, continuing until someone gets an open mid-range jump shot or a layup. Coach Jankovich said the goal is still to get in the paint and score. Coach Brown praised Ben Moore for running it correctly by handing off and setting a great screen. They also practiced the 2-on-2 trap drill.

Practice Quick Hits

— Practice started with a 40 minute film session.

Ben Emelogu practiced with a splint on his ring and pinky fingers on his right hand (shooting hand).

— While it may not mean much, Jonathan Wilfong, Jean-Michael Mudiay and Kevin Dunleavy played more than usual in 5-on-5 practice.

Ryan Manuel, who hasn’t scored much in games or taken as many shots in practice recently, made a nice-looking jump shot from the elbow.

— Practice started in Crum and then moved to Moody.
