How it Happened
Led by Keith Frazier and Nic Moore, SMU managed to outlast the Mustangs of the Midwest and down MSU 70-61. Frazier and Moore finished with a combined total of 37 points, seven rebounds and four assists. MSU attacked SMU with a barrage of three pointers- shooting 30 percent from three-point range. No matter what SMU did, no matter what kind of run it went on, MSU was right there. However when the chips were down, SMU’s play makers stepped up and MSU’s didn’t and that was the difference in this game.
What it Means
SMU is now 9-3 and extends its winning streak to seven straight games and will enter AAC play as hot as any team. MSU was a tough team; the Mustangs were 10-3 coming into tonight’s contest. The win also means the SMU Mustangs can call themselves the “true” Mustangs.
Player of the Game
Keith Frazier: Frazier finished the night with 14 points and two rebounds. He hit a three pointer in the second half that made it 50-48 SMU and swung momentum to SMU’s side.
SMU did a good job of limiting Breston McNeal in the second half- after he scored 11 points in the first, he finished the night with 11. They absolutely shut him down. It was a really good halftime adjustment because if he had been clicking too, this could have easily been a loss.
SMU will kick off American Athletic Conference play on Dec. 31 when they hose USF. Tip off will be at 4 p.m. in Moody Coliseum. The game will also be televised on ESPN2.
