1/23 Official Visit Weekend Primer

Billy breaks down the official visitors for this weekend for SMU! Who's looking to commit?

Uncommitted Prospects

Positional Rank: #88 ranked receiver overall, #17 in Texas
Official visits scheduled: Visited Oklahoma State Jan. 17. Scheduled to visit Washington Jan. 30.
Notes: Castille is an incredible do-it-all playmaker out of Rockwall with legit 4.43 speed at 5-10, 195 pounds. SMU will likely utilize him in various roles, something Castille would excel at. The fact that Castille is taking the SMU visit after his OSU visit is great for SMU.
Commitment probability: 10 percent.

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: Visited Northwestern last weekend.
Notes: Jordon Williams loved his Northwestern visit this past weekend and raved about it. Williams though will still visit SMU this weekend. With four linebackers (or three depending on Michael Scott's position) and the class low on numbers, I was surprised SMU is having him take the visit. Williams has great speed at just 6-1, 200 for a linebacker, but could also even play some nickel coverage if he keeps that weight. SMU will impress Williams this weekend like it has everyone else, but will it be enough to take him from Northwestern?
Commitment probability: 30 percent

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: SMU this weekend.
Notes: Williams played in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl and said his two top schools were Clemson and SMU. At the time, SMU wasn't interested, but the staff has gotten Williams on campus and between Williams and Jonathan Song, SMU would not have a problem at kicker. One thing about the SMU staff, they don't wait on kids to decide. If Williams wants to commit, I'd imagine he'd have an opportunity to.
Commitment probability: 80 percent (if committable)

Prospects Committed Elsewhere

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: SMU this weekend and regular visits to UH.
Notes: It appears SMU and Houston will be battling it out for some recruits down the stretch and none are more important than West. West sits at the top of SMU's running back board and while I haven't gotten much information out of him, West would be a great land if the staff can flip him. West got an in-home visit this week from Claude Mathis so with SMU putting the fullcourt press on him, it will be a tough choice.
Commitment probability: 25 percent

Positional Rank: #59 overall and #10 in Texas
Official visits scheduled: Thomas cancelled his Texas Tech visit and will decide between SMU and Kansas.
Notes: Kevin Thomas would be the second DeSoto receiver to join SMU and with Proche visiting this weekend, there will be a big push for Thomas to ink with SMU. Thomas is a big-time receiver and with Castille on campus, the trio would form a great group of receivers to include Lamont Johnson and Alex Honey.
Commitment probability: 70 percent

Positional Rank: #52 overall and #9 in Texas
Official visits scheduled: SMU this weekend.
Notes: Abercrumbia would be a huge land if SMU is out of the Bryce English sweepstakes. Adding both would be a plus, but Abercrumbia is a big, quick playmaker. While he has to put on a little weight unlike English, this would be a major pickup. SMU is a great academic school, just closer to home for the defensive tackle.
Commitment probability: 60 percent

SMU commits

Positional Rank: #48 overall and #3 in Texas
Official visits scheduled: None.
Notes: Herndon was Chad Morris’ first commit as SMU head coach. Herndon played quarterback at North Forney, but will likely play immediately at tight end and H-back.

Positional Rank: #78 overall and #14 in Texas
Official visits scheduled: None.
Notes: Proche has been one of SMU's biggest recruiters and confirmed his commitment as soon as Chad Morris was hired. He'll be charged with pushing Kevin Thomas to flip from Kansas.

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: None.
Notes: Kaufman had an in-home visit with coach Morris this week before his official this weekend. Solid athlete that will have to find a home at a position after being recruited for the 3-4 by the prior staff.

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: None
Notes: Delontae is the twin brother of Michael and has stuck with his commitment since June when both of the brothers originally committed. Delontae is a little leaner and will end up at LB.

Positional Rank: #112 overall and #11 in Texas.
Official visits scheduled: None
Notes: Michael Scott decommitted for a time after June Jones resigned, but the new SMU staff had to get him back and convinced him to stay with his original choice. He projects as a defensive end at the next level.

Positional Rank: NR
Official visits scheduled: None
Notes: Gailliard committed to SMU over the summer and also one of the first commits Chad Morris visited when he went out on his first day to recruit as head coach.
