WHEN: Saturday, January 24 at 5 p.m. CT
WHERE: Moody Coliseum (Dallas, Texas)
TV/RADIO: CBS Sports Network/KAAM 770 AM
SERIES: SMU trails in the series as Houston leads 47-27
LAST MEETING: Houston dropped SMU in the AAC tournament 68-64.
SMU has been playing very efficient, smart and defensive-minded basketball since Keith Frazier hasn’t been on the floor. Sterling Brown has stepped up in a big way with great defense. SMU may have one of the better tandems of defensive guards in Brown and Ryan Manuel with their on-ball pressure.
Houston has had a rough go to say the least in AAC play. The Cougars come into Moody Coliseum with a 0-7 AAC record and are not looking like they’re going to turn the corner. With SMU’s great defense and Houston not shooting the ball well at all, SMU should be able to get out with a win today. That being said, Houston and SMU always keep it interesting and a struggling squad would love nothing more than to hurt SMU’s tournament chances with a win.
MATCHUP TO WATCH
Ryan Manuel vs. Jherrod Stiggers: Stiggers has hit just five of his last 36 field goal attempts so Manuel may not need to do much work here, but Stiggers is still dangerous. Manuel has played tremendous defense the last few games and it will need to continue against Houston’s leading scorer.
KEYS TO THE GAME
Nic Moore has been the key to this efficient SMU offense the last three games. Since a turnover filled half against Temple, Moore has turned the ball over twice. That’s an incredible statistic and one SMU needs Moore to continue having.
