How it Happened
SMU cruised to an 80-59 win over Houston. Nic Moore absolutely went off from three point range and Houston had no answer for his outside shooting.
What it Means
SMU extends its winning streak to six games and is now 7-1 in the American. The Mustangs have been in second place in the conference for a while now and this win should put more distance between them and third place Cincinnati- and bring them that much closer to top placed Tulsa.
Player of the Game
Nic Moore:Moody Coliseum quite possibly witnessed one of the best shooting performances by a Mustang ever. Moore didn’t attempt a single shot from inside three-point range except for free throws and finished with 28 points. By the end of the game, Moore hit eight threes on an unbelievable 72 percent from three-point range.
SMU only turned the ball over 11 times. It was the first time in a long time that the Mustangs turned the ball over more than 10 times. Seven of those turnovers came in the second half- so SMU did a fantastic job at halftime to refocus and take care of the ball in the final frame. It also helped that Nic Moore was lighting it up and creating the majority of the Mustangs’ offense.
SMU will travel to Florida to play USF Wednesday night. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. CT and the game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
